Have you seen a particular method work in getting the men of the church excited about Marketplace leadership?
Well as you might expect, I have to say that I have not found a particular method that has worked. However, I would suggest a few things.
First, start with those who show an interest. It might be two people in your church. Visit their workplace if you can. Pray with them about why God placed them in the job He did and seek the Lord's guidance in what he wants to accomplish through their lives where they work. Perhaps do a study, such as our book, "God in the Marketplace" and help them think through the key issues. Equip them to accomplish what they sense God calling them to do. If it is to lead a Bible study in their office at lunch time, then help them do that well. If it is to share their faith, give them whatever training they need. Then as they see God working in their lives, have them share testimonies of what God is doing. That usually inspires others to want God to do the same thing in their lives. Then repeat the process. You might want to start a Sunday morning Bible study in the Sunday School hour on God in the Marketplace. Certainly be praying that God will thrust forth people with a heart for the marketplace. You might want to have special services in your church where you preach on the subject and perhaps even have a special commissioning service for those who go out each week as missionaries to the marketplace. The more you talk about it, the more it will become a topic of conversation among your people. Those are some ideas at least. Hope that helps.
I would add that you must model for your men what you want to see in their life. Demonstrate in your own life how to impact the marketplace where you are. When they see how God is working through your life, how lives are being changed and the power of God setting people free from bondage, or how the truths of the Gospel are impacting their lives and relationships, then they will want to be a part of that too. Many people in the marketplace are entrepreneurial and can quickly get excited about the possibilities of what God can do. Take advantage of that aspect.
